week9 SEA LEGS

The new book, SEA LEGS is fiction, and it’s an adventure story on a cruise Ship.

The beginning of it is, like this:

“The first thing you need to know is that my brother Clive is a nutcase and the second thing you need to know is that I sometimes help him out when he’s busy and when he can’t manage all the nutcasing on his own, which isn’t often.”

Don’t you think it’s strange and funny begging?

The main character is Eric. He has a brother, Clive, and “Eric is older than Clive by about five minutes”…….in short, they’re twins.

Their widowed dad is a steward on a cruise ship, and every time he goes away, the twins miss him terribly. And one day, Eric and Clive decided that this time will be different, because when their father leaves for his latest cruise, they will go with them secretly!

I have read this book once, but it was when I was about 12 years old, so I don’t remember the detail of this story. So, it’s a little difficult to read this because of many funny humors (sometimes I have trouble with understanding them completely), but because of this, I think I can enjoy this book as a new book which I’ve never read. This is funny and good book, so I will keep reading!

week8 SEA LEGS

From this week, I decided to try to read a new book, SEA LEGS by Alex Shearer. The author is an Englishman, and famous in U.K. I like his stories very much , because almost all of his book is super interesting! :)

I read almost all of his books which were translated in Japanese. The most famous one in Japan is, I think, The Great Blue Yonder (in Japanese, aozora no mukou). I think some of you have read this book, because his book is very famous in Japanese young girls or women.

In his book, you’ll find that many funny humors are peppered with. And most of his books are a little like adventure or fantasy story, so if you like such stories, I recommend reading his books.

So, at the beginning, I’ll tell you that this book is a story of Eric and Clive (they are twins), in England.

week7

The translator of this book, John Bester says, “(in Miyazawa Kenji’s story,) they had more genuine originality, and a more universal appeals, than almost anything else I have done, irrespective of whether it was aimed at adults or children.”

I think Kenji’s stories are deep and both children and adults can enjoy.

My favorite story of him is “Ginga-tetsudou no yoru (Night on the Milky Way Train)”. It is a book obout the story of the train which takes dead people to the next world, like various heaven. The expression in this book is extremely beautiful, and the story is deep and very attractive. So, if you are interested in Miyazawa Kenji’s book, I think you should read it! :)

Next week, I’m wondering what story I will read…

week6

The earthgod noticed that the fox didn’t have money at all. Ha was poor and he only had one book he lend to the tree, and the two burrs. The fox had been lying just because he wanted to be loved by the tree.

I was sad when I finish reading this story.

It is said that the theme of this story is karma. And the earthgod represents a retirement professor, the fox represents a poor poet, and the tree represents a country girl.

You may be confused, because the tree doesn’t talk as usual. But in Kenji’s story, It’s not so unusual.
I thought this story is sad and a little mysterious

week5

After the earthgod worried about his feeling to the tree and the fox, one day, he felt that if the birch tree want to talk to the fox, It’s all right if only the two were happy. And he went to see the tree to tell it.

However, the fox suddenly came while the tree and the god were talking. The fox felt bad, and he didn’t answer to the earthgod, and lied to the tree again, by mistake, and he left the place.

The earthgod began to seethe with rage, and he chased the fox with his dreadful dark face because of mad. Off went the fox like the wind, his face white and his mouth twisted with fear.

week3

The earthgod was loving the birch tree. But he felt jealousy because the tree and the fox looked very close. And the earthgod suffer from his sence og guilt, because he felt such a bad feeling though  he was god. But he couldn’t forget about the tree.

The fox, often went to see the tree. And they talked about many things, especially about the stars and the universe, and so on. The fox was talking about his knowledge, and the tree was always praising him, because he seems very wise. The fox said, “I have many books written in Germany, English, and Japanese in my house. And a telescope will arrive my house soon from Germany, so I’ll show you.”

The tree was very glad to hear that, and she thought how great he fox was.

However, to tell the truth, the fox didn’t order the telescope. He regretted about his lie. He only said the lie to praise her.
