The owner of this Ring doesn’t die, doesn’t grow. That was why Bilbo was able to live very long with healthy body and look. And if you use this ring, your body became invisible from everyone. But if you use it often, sooner or later, ring’s dark power will devour you and your mind. That was the reason why Bilbo felt that he didn’t want to part with it.

And if the ring was hold by someone who has evil thought or desire, it’s very dangerous for the whole world. And for some reason, some enemy got to know that the Ring is in Shire (here), and “Baggins( Frodo’s family name )” is holding it. So, Gandalf told Frodo that he has to leave Shire, and go to the Land of Moldor to destroy it.

By this shadow of the past, Frodo was lead to his hard destiny.
