This
time, I read another short story of Miyazawa Kenji. The title is, “The Earthgod and the Fox”
On
the northern edge of a stretch of open land, a beautiful female tree(birch
tree) was standing.
The
tree has two friends, the earthgod(the god of the place) and the fox.
This
was the story of the birch tree, earthgod, and fox.
The
female birch tree preferred the fox, because the earthgod was too wild and
easily got angry in
spite of his imposing name. On the other hand, the fox was very
gentle.
But,
actually, the earthgod was honest and the fox was, perhaps, just a bit
dishonest.
I'd like to read this story in both Japanese and English. It should be so interesting to compare Japanese style and English one.
